Vic: Traffic disrpution in Melbourne after tram derails
MELBOURNE, Dec 30 AAP - A tram has derailed in Melbourne's inner-east causing major
damage at a key intersection - with morning commuter traffic set to face disruption, police
said.
The tram left its tracks, smashed into traffic lights at the intersection of Glenferrie
and Malvern Roads, then ploughed into the awning of a chemist's shop, Senior Constable
Rob Pugh said.
The 45-year-old male tram driver was taken to the Alfred Hospital with minor head injuries,
he said.
The intersection would be closed to traffic until at least lunch-time, he said.
An investigation was being held into the cause of the derailing.
