Coast Guard Begins Biometric Pilot Program.

The Coast Guard has begun a pilot program involving the collection of biometric data from illegal immigrants who have been interdicted at sea and comparing the information against the U.S. VISIT database, which includes information about wanted criminals, immigration violators and those who previously encountered government authorities.

The biometric data being collected is digital fingerprints and photographs. The pilot will take place in the Mona Passage, a strait between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico that links the Caribbean Sea in the south to the Atlantic Ocean in the north.
