Motorola Reels in C-Port.(acquires programmable network processor manufacturer)(Company Business and Marketing)

Motorola Inc. continued its drive to fill out its communications portfolio last week when it snapped up C-Port Corp., a Massachusetts-based maker of innovative programmable network processors. Sale price is estimated at approximately $430 million.

C-Port caught Motorola's attention because of its programmable processor -- which company officials claim is a first in high-speed Internet switching and routing. It could prove a popular product among network operators looking to keep up with service innovations -- and therefore a lucrative item for Motorola.
