Fed: Fed govt will work to stop price gouging: Vaile

The federal government's appealing to food suppliers .. not to gouge customers with
high prices .. if irrigators lose access to water from the Murray-Darling Basin later
this year.

Deputy Prime Minister MARK VAILE has told the Nine Network .. the government will be
working hard to ensure no one take advantage of farmers or consumers.

Yesterday .. the Prime Minister warned there's be no water for farming in the Murray-Darling
Basin from mid-year unless heavy rain fell soon.

And the announcement's prompted concerns price of food will escalate .. with much of
Australia's produce irrigated from the Murray-Darling system.
