FED:Australian animals mistreated in Turkey

Graphic new footage released by Animals Australia shows breaches of international guidelines
when animals are slaughtered in Turkish abattoirs.

The footage was shot covertly by two members of the group at three abattoirs in Turkey,
a new market for Australian live exports.

The first part shows conscious cows being hoisted in the air by a hind leg at an abattoir
near the city of Bursa.

The beasts swing out over the floor and their throats are cut, in some cases with a
stabbing motion instead of a clean cut.

Animals Australia cruelty investigator LYN WHITE says this is contrary to international
guidelines, which stipulate animals must not be hoisted while conscious and slaughterers
must be able to reach both sides of the animal's neck.

The second part of the footage shows sheep in another abattoir in Bursa, which were
similarly slaughtered, but the group couldn't confirm they were Australian.

The release of the footage came soon after two bills to phase out the export of live
animals were defeated in parliament.

SA:Rann meeting over MP child porn charge

ADELAIDE, April 21 AAP - South Australia's beleaguered Premier Mike Rann is in an executive
council meeting after cutting short an interstate trip after the arrest of a Labor MP
on child porn charges.

Reporters are waiting outside the building in Adelaide's Victoria Square where the
premier is being briefed about the charging of the MP, who cannot be named due to automatic
suppressions on child sex charges.

The man was arrested at his house in Adelaide's northeast suburbs on Wednesday and
later charged at the city watch house with two counts of possessing child pornography
and two charges of taking steps to access child pornography.

Mr Rann flew back to Adelaide on Thursday morning, telling journalists he was returning
earlier than expected.

He refused to answer questions but will issue a statement later on Thursday after an
executive council meeting.

Detectives said their investigation was continuing.

The MP was released on bail on Wednesday to face court on May 20.

Under SA law he cannot be identified until his committal, unless he gives his consent.

He returned home earlier on Thursday but had not spoken to the waiting media outside.

A visitor to the MP's home told ABC Online the matter was an "absolute nightmare" and
"there has to be some kind of mistake".

Politicians from both sides say they are shocked by the allegations.

But they were not prepared to talk on the record until after the premier makes his
position clear.

The arrest comes as support for the Rann government has slumped to an all-time low,
according to a poll on Wednesday.

The poll of 442 voters conducted by the Adelaide Advertiser found support for Labor
was at its lowest level since 1993 with the party's primary vote falling to just 24 per
cent.

Type: News

AuraPortal, a provider of Business Process Management (BPM) software, has announced the international launch of their Online Commerce Module which allows companies to offer their products on the Internet to their customers through a web user interface with improved ease of use and comprehensive purchasing transaction capabilities.

AuraPortal has developed a complete e-Commerce (Online Commerce) Module, which includes Content Management, a Shopping Cart and a Payment Gateway, allowing companies to link all their Internet sales with their internal business processes workflow (BPM).
With this new Module, the company noted, companies will be able to start their own Online Commerce channel without the need of IT programming. Hence, with AuraPortal their business employees can easily and rapidly design a totally customized system, with all transaction activity able to be monitored by the AuraPortal BPM Module.

AuraPortal said it has taken into account the integration with search engine positioning (e.g. Google), and therefore it includes the automatic creation of the Site-Map in order to automatically publish every selling product in the internal indices of these search systems.

"Sales operations have never been this automated," according to Pablo Trilles, Vice President of AuraPortal. "The integration of e- Commerce with existing and enhanced Sales and Supply Chain Processes is an extraordinary advancement. The fact that the e-Commerce environment can be handled completely by business users without any technical resource is also greatly beneficial, which gives companies a tremendous amount of agility and flexibility by reducing their time to market and increasing their speed to business process enhancement."

CYCLE:Men can medal, says cycling selector

By Roger Vaughan

MELBOURNE, Aug 24 AAP - Australian cycling selector Shayne Bannan has strongly defended
some contentious decisions for the world road championships, saying the host nation is
a definite medal chance.

Australia have finalised their nine-rider team for the highest-profile event at the
worlds, the men's elite road race, where Cadel Evans will start as defending champion.

Lead-out specialist Mark Renshaw joined sprinting legend Robbie McEwen as the most
notable omissions from the elite men's team.

McEwen revealed his non-selection over the weekend on his Twitter account and said
he was disappointed by the selectors' lack of faith in him.

"I'd say across the board it's a stronger team this year and it's a stronger team based
on the course (suiting) this group more this year than last year," Bannan said on Tuesday.

"I believe we've selected a really well-balanced team and I believe we've got a number
of options in there - I believe we're a definite medal chance."

Bannan paid tribute to McEwen and stressed he had no problem with the rider going public
with his non-selection.

He told McEwen of the decision in person over the weekend.

"The conversation, as you would expect, was a difficult one," Bannan said.

"For Robbie to display his disappointment over Twitter ... he did it with honour, I
have no problems."

Bannan said the selectors felt Allan Davis and Matt Goss were better options than McEwen
if the race came down to a sprint.

Bannan, who is also Cycling Australia's national performance director, has also revealed
that Evans will joined Simon Gerrans as the team's two main protected riders.

Evans is coming off the cracked elbow he suffered in the Tour de France and has also
said several times he does not believe the worlds course suits him.

But Bannan said he had "no question mark" about whether Evans would be ready for the worlds.

The selectors also clearly think Evans is selling himself short.

Bannan said the nature of the course would suit riders who have performed well in the
Ardennes one-day classics.

Earlier this year, Evans became the first Australian to win Fleche-Wallonne, one of
the key Ardennes races.

Joining Evans, Gerrans, Davis and Goss in the worlds team will be Stuart O'Grady, Mat
Hayman, Baden Cooke, Wes Sulzberger and Michael Rogers.

Those latter five riders will have support or "domestique" roles, although Bannan said
a rider such as O'Grady could become a contender if the race unfolded in his favour.

Cooke is an interesting selection, but Bannan said the rider had done plenty of strong
support work earlier this season for his Saxo Bank professional team.

Rising star Richie Porte will join Rogers as Australia's two starters in the men's
individual time trial.

Melbourne will host the worlds from September 29 to October 3, with the men's elite
road race on the final day.

SA: Extra water helping improve the lower lakes

The South Australian government says the state's parched lower lakes are showing signs
of recovery because of increased water flows down the Murray.

Water levels in Lake Alexandrina have risen 20 centimetres since January .. and are
expected to continue to rise over the coming months .. thanks to the floodwaters moving
down from NSW and Queensland.

River Murray Minister PAUL CAICA says increased environmental flows are already helping
sustain the lower lakes .. after the government negotiated the flow of an additional 170
billion litres even before the upstream floods.

Christmas stories to be told by signing ; Mario Mauro's presentation at the Springvale Library will be translated for people with hearing.
Byline: DEBORAH SAYER News Assistant
Edition: York
Section: Local & State
Memo: IF YOU GO HOLIDAY STORY TIME will be offered from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the library, 443 Main St., Springvale. The session is free and open to the public. FOR MORE INFORMATION, call 324-4624. The facility is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays; from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The library is closed on Sundays and major holidays. For a complete schedule of activities and additional information, go to the library's Web site at: www.springvalelibrary.org. The site offers many interactive internet links, including a children's section featuring fun activities, history, trivia, homework assistance and much more.

For some, Christmas memories come in audible form: the sound of ringing of bells, the singing of carols, and the recitation of "'Twas the night before Christmas..." from Clement C. Moore's classic poem `A Visit From St. Nicholas.'

For others, the bells, carolers and books also evoke Christmas memories, but the sounds identifying them are as audible as falling snow - utterly silent.
Today the Springvale Public Library will host deaf storyteller Mario Mauro in hopes of bringing some seasonal joy to readers of all hearing abilities. He will relate two holiday tales for children and their families using American Sign Language. An interpreter, who will translate Mauro's stories into English for the hearing audience, will accompany him.

The event marks Mauro's second such visit to the library. Last year, he conveyed the book "The Polar Express" and later invited children in the audience who knew sign language to join him in teaching the others how to sign some Christmas carols. Several children, ages 8 to 12, volunteered.

"He's so amazing," said children's librarian Sheila Dube of Mauro's gestures and storytelling abilities. "Without hearing, you could tell what he was saying."

Dube said that audience members really connected with Mauro and each other. And, she hopes his visits will become a yearly tradition.

This year, Mauro will feature the books "The 12 days of Christmas" and "Wings that Work." And, once again, he will teach children how to sign a few traditional Christmas carols.

The library staff will help set the holiday mood, serving seasonal refreshments in front of a festive hand-painted fireplace that will serve as a backdrop for the presentation. There is no registration necessary and all are welcome to attend.

The event is just one of the ways the library is offering programs that all members of the community can enjoy. "We're a public library, so we want to meet the needs of the community," said Dube.

The facility will celebrate its 100th anniversary beginning in January 2006. The yearlong celebration will include historical talks, special children's programs and a Victorian Christmas celebration in December 2006.

Scientific-Atlanta's Net Earnings Double to $0.46 per Share; Backlog exceeds $1 billion for the first time.

ATLANTA, April 19 /PRNewswire/ --

Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. (NYSE: SFA) today reported record financial results for its third fiscal quarter, with bookings, sales, backlog and cash each setting all-time records.

Consistently Strong Financial Performance

For the quarter ending March 30, 2001, bookings were $712.6 million, an increase of $117.8 million, or 20%, over the prior year's third quarter. Sales of $663.7 million rose by $223.0 million, or 51%, from the same period a year ago. Net earnings for the quarter were $76.2 million, or $0.46 per share. This represents a $38.1 million, or 100%, improvement over the comparable period of the prior year, when net earnings were $0.23 per share.

Backlog at quarter end was a record $1.0 billion, an increase of $227.8 million from last year and up $48.9 million from last quarter.

Scientific-Atlanta's balance sheet remains strong, with cash and short- term investments of $723.8 million at the end of the third quarter. This represents an increase of $200.7 million, or 38%, over the fiscal year-end balance at June 30, 2000 and an increase of $145.9 million, or 25%, from last quarter's balance. The Company continues to have no significant debt.

Sales for the first nine months of fiscal year 2001 were $1.9 billion, an increase of 63%, versus $1.2 billion in the comparable period of the prior year. Net earnings for the nine-month period were $260.3 million, or $1.55 per share, an improvement of 169% compared to $96.7 million, or $0.59 per share in the comparable period of the prior year. Excluding one-time events, net earnings for the nine-month period were $210.9 million, or $1.26 per share, an increase of 127% compared to $92.7 million, or $0.57 per share in the first nine months of the prior year.

Strong third quarter results were driven by the Company's Broadband segment. A decline in sales of Transmission related products of 4% year-over- year to $176.3 million was more than offset by a 119% increase in sales of Subscriber related products to $466.1 million. Subscriber product bookings of $510.6 million were up 39% from the prior year. Transmission product bookings of $179.8 million declined by 3% year-over-year. Third quarter bookings and sales of Media Networks products were down slightly as compared to the prior year.

Commenting on the third quarter results, James F. McDonald, Scientific- Atlanta's Chairman and CEO said, "Our success this quarter reflects the priorities of our North American customers. Digital services continue to be very popular with consumers and economically attractive to the cable companies. The resulting demand for our Explorer(R) digital interactive set- tops, coupled with international transmission growth, has been able to compensate for any weakness in the domestic transmission market."

Increased Shipments of Explorer Set-tops and Introduction of International Product

In the third fiscal quarter, the Company again successfully expanded manufacturing capacity at its Juarez plant. More than 1.4 million Explorer digital interactive set-tops were shipped in the quarter, raising the cumulative total to nearly six million units. Twenty-six headends were installed, bringing the total to 241. Commercial services now have been launched at more than 200 of these sites.

Scientific-Atlanta introduced the Explorer 4000DVB set-top in the third quarter. This new model will be capable of delivering digital broadcast video and interactive applications. In addition, with its integrated Euro-DOCSIS cable modem, it will be a home gateway that can simultaneously provide high- speed Internet access to a home computer, Voice-over-IP, and home networking services. The Company also announced that its WebSTAR(TM) Cable Modem received both DOCSIS and Euro-DOCSIS certifications.

Broadband Transmission Products

The Company's Transmission products performed very well in the third quarter despite softness in the domestic market, posting only a slight decline in sales compared to the prior year. International opportunities compensated for most of the shortfall in the US. In the third fiscal quarter, international bookings of Transmission products were up 34% from the prior year and 21% sequentially.

In February, Scientific-Atlanta was selected, as part of a consortium led by Nortel Networks, to provide HFC technology, digital transport for video, and professional services in support of the network upgrade at Kabel NRW, also known as "Callahan." The system is expected to pass as many as 4.2 million German homes by the end of 2003. The Company received initial purchase orders for this project; however, it does not expect significant shipments until fiscal year 2002.

Scientific-Atlanta continued to invest in promising new technologies. In the quarter, the Company announced an investment of $5 million in Pacific Broadband Communications, Inc.(PBC). The combined strengths of Scientific- Atlanta, PBC, and Luminous Networks, in which Scientific-Atlanta invested last year, are expected to result in an implementation of DOCSIS that is significantly more efficient and cost-effective. At its annual Analysts' Meeting, Scientific-Atlanta demonstrated a working Fiber to the Home (FTTH) network and a fixed wireless extension of DOCSIS data capability that has the potential to bring high-speed data services to small businesses not currently served by cable.

Summarizing the quarter, McDonald concluded, "The keys to our ongoing success are our diversity and balance: we are both an end-to-end supplier of transmission infrastructure equipment, and a leading provider of subscriber products. Our Transmission products are balanced between RF electronics and opto-electronics. Our Subscriber products provide a fully integrated network solution including both hardware and software. At this time of transition in the domestic cable market, the diversity of our geographical presence enables us to seek new sources of growth. We believe that our balance and diversity, coupled with favorable customer economics, should enable our growth in the quarters ahead."

"Forward-looking statements," as defined in the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995, may be included in this news release. A variety of factors could cause Scientific-Atlanta's actual results to differ from the anticipated results expressed in such forward-looking statements. Investors are referred to Scientific-Atlanta's Cautionary Statements (Exhibit 99 to the Company's most recent Form 10-Q), which statements are incorporated into this news release by reference.

Collecting Channel Launches Comics Collectors' MicroChannel.

NORFOLK, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 23, 1999--Collecting Channel, the Internet's leading multimedia resource for the collecting community, is expanding its services to create the new Comics MicroChannel.

One of a dynamic group of new MicroChannels accessible from the very popular Collecting Channel MacroChannel, the Comics MicroChannel is the one-stop place on the Internet for collectors of comic books, comic strips and related memorabilia. Here the collector can find the latest news, features, interviews and previews -- along with links to comics sites of every sort, grouped with brief descriptions to aid the viewer. The new MicroChannel is "live" now. Visit it at: http://www.collectingchannel.com.

The Comics MicroChannel is edited by long-time comics collector Ted White. He was written up in the Washington Daily News in the mid-'50s as "The Boy With 10,000 Comics." By then he'd published the first issue of the EC Comics fanzine, Potrzebie, and had visited the offices of EC Comics in New York City, a not uncommon pilgrimage of the day. In the '60s he met and became friends with Marvel Comics' Stan Lee, and wrote the Bantam Captain America book, The Great Gold Steal, at Stan's suggestion.

After years of editing science fiction magazines, White became the editor of Heavy Metal in '79, producing what collectors deem to be the all-time best issues of that sophisticated comic book. White worked in retail comics distribution in the late eighties and early nineties, keeping his thumb on the buyers' pulses. He's also seen the publication of over a dozen of his own science fiction novels.

"Comics were one of the fixtures of my life from before I learned to read," Ted says. "I used to lie on the floor and stare at the daily newspaper strips -- and try to figure out what was going on in them. Once I could read there was no stopping me. And back in those days kids traded beat up, coverless and torn copies of virtually any comic book. It used to drive me crazy, trying to read all the installments of the Mickey Mouse serial in Walt Disney's Comics & Stories. I'd always miss one, and those were strange, fantastic stories for a kid, full of science fiction. So, from an early age, I became a Collector. And, as anyone who knows me can attest, I still am."

The Comics MicroChannel reflects White's life-long interest in comics and collecting, and has a broad focus, aimed at collectors of all ages. The Comics MicroChannel discusses and supports all facets of comics collecting -- from the nostalgia factors to the dollar amounts.

Research and Markets: Jordan Telecommunications Report Q3 2011: Telecoms Sector Repositioning Itself to Restore Investor Confidence.

M2 PRESSWIRE-July 21, 2011-: Research and Markets: Jordan Telecommunications Report Q3 2011: Telecoms Sector Repositioning Itself to Restore Investor Confidence(C)1994-2011 M2 COMMUNICATIONS

RDATE:21072011

Dublin - Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/0c1503/jordan_telecommuni) has announced the addition of the "Jordan Telecommunications Report Q3 2011" report to their offering.

Business Monitor International's Jordan Telecommunications Report provides industry professionals and strategists, corporate analysts, telecommunication associations, government departments and regulatory bodies with independent forecasts and competitive intelligence on Jordan's telecommunications industry

BMI's analysis of the Jordanian telecoms market this quarter incorporates market data published by the telecoms regulator the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) and leading service providers. These are France Telecom-backed Jordan Telecom (Orange), Zain Jordan, Qatar Telecom (Qtel)- owned wi-tribe and Bahrain Telecom (Batelco)-owned Umniah. Our five-year forecast for the mobile, fixed and broadband sectors are largely unchanged this quarter as the latest market data are in line with our previous forecasts. Meanwhile, we are introducing our maiden ARPU forecast for the mobile market this quarter. Our forecast is based on available market data and overall trends in the telecoms market.

With the return of relative calm to Jordan's political scene after protests for political reforms in early 2011, the country's telecoms sector is repositioning itself to restore investor confidence and attract funds for expanding and upgrading the network. In our previous report, we suggested potential investors are likely to be hesitant about committing to long-term investments until political stability returns to most countries.

IBISWorld Names Top 10 Fastest Growing Industries.

The recession wreaked havoc on a myriad of businesses across the US, however, several industries experienced strong revenue growth despite the economic downturn, according to a release.

Industry research firm IBISWorld has identified the top 10 fastest growing industries from 2000 to 2016.

Industry Revenue 2010(millions)

Revenue Growth2000-11

Forecast Revenue Growth 2011-16

Voice Over Internet Protocol Providers (VoIP) $ 12,498 193.9 percent 17.4 percent

Wind Power $ 3,388 16.9 percent 11.2 percent

E-Commerce & Online Auctions $ 95,005 12.2 percent 9.4 percent

Environmental Consulting $ 18,153 7.7 percent 9.4 percent

Biotechnology $ 86,971 11.0 percent 9.6 percent

Video Games $ 38,622 6.2 percent 8.3 percent

Solar Power $ 69 2.7 percent 7.9 percent

Third-Party Administrators & Insurance Claims Adjusters $ 57,530 6.9 percent 7.7 percent

Correctional Facilities $ 34,373 9.1 percent 7.5 percent

Internet Publishing & Broadcasting $ 32,573 25.2 percent 6.8 percent

"After compiling the list of fastest growing industries, there were some apparent trends," explained IBISWorld Senior Analyst Casey Thormahlen. "Each industry on the list experienced growth as a result of one or more of four drivers: Internet growth, environmental issues, cost cutting and evolving technology."

Internet Growth

It is no surprise that voice over internet protocol (VoIP), e-commerce and online auctions, and Internet publishing and broadcasting top the list. Each is being supported by the increasing popularity of the Internet for communication and business transactions. The growth of these industries will benefit major players like Comcast (CMCSA), Time Warner Cable (TWC), Cox Enterprises, Vonage (VG), Amazon (AMZN), eBay (EBAY), Google (GOOG) and Facebook.

Environmental Issues

Growing environmental concerns and favorable government assistance has boosted wind and solar power generation. A continued focus on lifting energy self-sufficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions is expected in the next five years, benefiting companies like Next Era Energy (NEE) and Xcel Energy (XEL). Additionally, increased government regulation with regard to the environment has opened up vast opportunities for environmental consulting firms to help clients with compliance.

Cost Cutting

Third-party administrators, insurance claims adjusters, and correctional facilities have all been experiencing growth as private and public entities seek out alternatives amid a slow growing economy. As insurance operators look to cut costs and improve profitability, they are outsourcing work to claims adjusters and administrators like Aon Corp. (AON), Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC) and Willis Group Holding. Similarly, as government budgets tighten, correctional facilities are turning to less expensive options, such as the privatization of facilities like Corrections Corp. of America (CXW).

Evolving Technology

Biotechnology and video games are an unlikely duo, but both industries are benefiting from constantly evolving technology and product developments, like genetic engineering and 3D video games. Although each industry has taken considerable steps to cut costs in the past few years, diversified product lines and increased demand from an aging population (video games are seeing more female and older players) are key revenue drivers for both industries. Companies that stand to benefit include Syngenta (SYT), Monsanto (MON), Genentech (RHHBY) and Activision (ATVI).

IBISWorld offers a database of information and analysis on every US industry.

The # of Reports in the table below shows how many previous quarterly reports comprise the indicator that predicts how a stock will act after its earnings are released. The specific technology used to make these predictions is available for a low monthly fee at http://www.squeezetrigger.com/services/strat/mh.php . CLWR CLEARWIRE CORP-CLASS A 12 Quarter Q1 After

WRI WEINGARTEN REALTY INVESTORS 6 Quarter Q1 After

About SQUEEZETRIGGER.COM

WWW.SQUEEZETRIGGER.COM is a service designed to help bonafide shareholders of publicly traded US companies fight short selling. SqueezeTrigger.com has built a proprietary database that uses Threshold list feeds and short sale time and sale data from NASDAQ, AMEX and NYSE to generate detailed and useful information to combat the short selling problem. For the first time, actual trade by trade data is available to the public that shows the attempted size, actual size, price and average value of short sales in stocks that have been shorted. This information is valuable in determining the precise point at which short sellers go out-of-the-money and start losing on their short trades.

SQUEEZETRIGGER.COM has built a massive database that collects, analyzes and publishes a proprietary SqueezeTrigger for each stock that has been shorted. The SqueezeTrigger database of nearly 2.5 billion short sale transactions goes back to January 1, 2005 and calculates the exact price at which the Total Short Interest is short in each stock. This data was never before available prior to January 1, 2005 because the Self Regulatory Organizations (primary exchanges) guarded it aggressively. After the SEC passed Regulation SHO, exchanges were forced to allow data processors like SqueezeTrigger.com to access the data.

The SqueezeTrigger database collects individual short trade data on over 7,000 NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ stocks and general short trade data on nearly 8,000 OTCBB and PINKSHEET stocks. Each month the database grows by approximately 50,000,000 short sale transactions and provides investors with the knowledge necessary to time when to buy and sell stocks with outstanding short positions. By tracking the size and price of each montha'a"s short transactions, SQUEEZETRIGGER.COM provides institutions, traders, analysts, journalists and individual investors the exact price point where short sellers start losing money and a short squeeze can begin.
