NSW: Rail passenger risks rising: Auditor-General
SYDNEY, Feb 12 AAP - Rail safety in NSW has improved on trains but worsened on platforms,an official report showed today.
The NSW Auditor-General's report into CityRail passenger safety found the number ofserious or violent crimes on trains fell by 43 per cent over the past five years.
But the same offences on platforms rose by 28 per cent.
Because the number of incidents on platforms is greater than those on trains, the overallnumber of serious or violent incidents increased by 14 per cent.
"Overall, the risk of a passenger becoming a victim of a crime on CityRail has increased,"
the report said.
